The students will be racing their balloon powered cars in the gym today as part of our science unit on the concepts of potential and kinetic energy.  Awards will be given for the fastest car, the car that traveled the greatest distance and the best looking car.  Students vote for the best looking car to determine the winner.

In math, students will take the Chapter 3 Math Test the week of February 4th.  Concepts to be covered on the test are divisibility rules, GCF, LCM, comparing fractions and connecting fractions and decimals.   Operations with fractions will be the next unit in math.

We've concluded our Earth History Unit in science.  The students wrapped up the unit with research and presentations on an era in geologic time.  The students worked in small groups to conduct research and create a poster to display the facts and events that occurred during their geologic time period.  Our next science unit will focus on explorations and investigations in heat and energy.

In math, we've completed our unit on decimal place value and operations, and we will continue to use these concepts throughout the year.  Our next unit will focus on divisibility rules, prime factorization of numbers, finding the greatest common factor (gcf) and least common multiple (lcm)  for a pair of numbers.

African Animals Project

Team Coral Sea has been very busy completing an informational essay on an African Animal.  These 6th graders not only researched their animal, but they created a diorama, and gave a presentation to their classmates.  Each student used their creativity to produce a fantastic project.  Come and view these dioramas in our lobby until Friday evening!

Today we had the great pleasure of welcoming Mr. Pojeta to Team Coral Sea.  He is a paleontologist for the Smithsonian Institution, and also Carter's grandfather.  We enjoyed learning about the Geological Time Table and seeing all the fossils and specimens.  A big thank-you to Mr. Pojeta!
