Friday, September 30th

Please excuse the "sample"! Mrs. Haddox used this hand to remind us how to write good paragraphs.  We are to include a topic sentence (main idea), three supporting details with quotes from the text, and a good conclusion sentence.  Ask your son or daughter to share the chant with you!
In the computer lab, we discovered  more about the animals whose fossils Alfred Wegener used to support his theory of continental drift.  We are writing a report on these animals.

The Great Sentence Caper!  Today in Language Arts, the students started to brainstorm on what theme they will be presenting to the class.  In teams of four, the students will become a character that can only talk in one of the types of sentences.  Through the use of theatre, the students are integrating the use of the four types of sentences in their writing.  On Friday, we will be presenting our capers to the classroom. Mrs. Haddox will not only grade our writing, but our presentations.

In Science, we are studying the layers of the Earth and in Math we are estimating.

Working Away!

We were mindfully working today.  In language arts, we reviewed sequencing in text.  By spotting the clue words, we were able to see the text develop.  Afterwards, we brainstormed words to creatively fill our acrostic poem on freedom.  With the 10th anniversary of September 11 on Sunday, we wanted to pay homage to the fallen men and women.  We are looking forward to you seeing our displays when you visit during Open House next week!

Math classes discussed place values and had some time in learning centers to review.

Homework:
Math:  Page 6, 7-26 and Place Value Worksheet from Centers
Language Arts:  Spelling Trace Plus Two; ABC Order, Colored Freedom Poem, Grammar pages 1-3

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

The rain made it a cozy school day!  We are starting to get into the groove with our classes and schedule.
In Language Arts today, we discovered that some words can clue us into sequencing.  By using these words, our text can become easier to understand.  We also received our first spelling list and stared our daily edit on the Promethean Board.

In Math, we searched for answers in our Math book through a scavenger hunt!  We have a lot to look forward to this year.

Homework:
Spelling:  Trace plus Two; ABC Order, both due Thursday.  Test on Friday
Reading: Page 1 in Reading Workbook (sequencing)
